Despite construction, Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort is anticipating a large turnout for Spa Blast July 3.
The free event, now in its 28th year, is headlined by country music legend Lee Greenwood and culminates in a fireworks display in the infield. Spa Blast is presented by Michelob Ultra Pure Gold.
As of Wednesday, Jennifer Hoyt, media relations manager, said Oaklawn is encouraging those planning to attend the event to park in the north parking lot to avoid the ongoing construction in the south lot.
"The north lot is really the most convenient way to access the infield and avoid construction in our south lot," she said.
Hoyt said in 2014 Spa Blast saw one of its largest crowds in attendance for Greenwood who is probably best-known for his chart-topper "God Bless the USA." According to a news release, this song was voted the most recognizable patriotic song in America and has been in the top five on the country singles charts in 1991, 2001 and 2003, giving it the distinction of being the only song in any genre of music to achieve that feat. "God Bless the USA" was also No. 1 on the pop charts in 2001 following 9/11.
"Last time he was here, we had over 15,000 people in attendance," she said. "I remember it was wall-to-wall people up by the stage. Between him and Natalie Stovall -- who is up and coming in country music -- we believe we'll have a really good crowd.
"The past two years we've had cover bands -- last year we had the Led Zeppelin cover band and we've had an Aerosmith cover band -- and they've been really good, but I think Lee Greenwood really adds a new dynamic to Spa Blast."
In addition to live music, the event will feature food and drinks, a petting zoo, a Kids Zone with a rock wall and misting tent. Hoyt said lawn chairs and blankets are welcome, but no coolers, drones or hoverboards will be allowed.
