Bishop John Harmon will celebrate Holy Eucharist at the 8 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. services on the Third Sunday of Advent at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 228 Spring St.
Born in Liberia, Harmon is the 14th bishop of the Diocese of Arkansas. He was ordained and consecrated in Little Rock on Jan. 6.
"A graduate of Virginia Theological Seminary, he was ordained into the priesthood in the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia in 1992. Prior to his election, he was the Rector of Trinity Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C., and a priest of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington. After his ordination, he served as an Episcopal chaplaincy at Norfolk State University and Assistant Rector at Grace Episcopal Church in Norfolk, Virginia. He went on to serve as Rector of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Petersburg, Virginia, for seven years before being called to Trinity," a news release said.
During the 10:45 a.m. service, Harmon will also confirm 12 parishioners through the laying on of hands. At 9:45 a.m., Christian formation class will be held with Harmon. After the confirmation service, a potluck reception and pingpong tournament will be held in the Parish Hall. At 1 p.m., Harmon will hold a listening session in the Parish Hall.
