A reportedly disorderly Illinois man was arrested late Tuesday after allegedly causing $2,000 in damages to a gate in the parking lot of Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort.
Aleksandr Gabuev, 39, who lists a Chicago address, was taken into custody shortly before 11:30 p.m. at Oaklawn, 2705 Central Ave., and charged with a felony count of first-degree criminal mischief over $1,000, punishable by up to six years in prison.
Gabuev, who lists no other prior criminal history in Arkansas, was being held on a $2,500 bond and was set to appear Wednesday in Garland County District Court.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Hot Springs police Officer 1st Class Jaime Ugartechea was working security at Oaklawn when he was notified of an incident in the parking lot.
He had assisted other security staff in ejecting a male, later identified as Gabuev, who was "becoming disorderly," a few moments earlier. Gabuev had agreed to leave, but as he was walking through the parking lot he allegedly struck a metal gate in the valet parking area.
He allegedly caused enough damage to the gate to make it "nonfunctional" and it was noted the gate was valued at $2,000. Lanie Turner, Oaklawn's security supervisor, indicated Oaklawn wanted to pursue charges on the matter.
Ugartechea relocated Gabuev in the parking lot and took him into custody without incident on the felony mischief charge and transported him to the detention center where he was booked in around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.
