Visitors Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 319 Church St., will celebrate its 154th church anniversary and hold a welcome reception for its new pastor, the Rev. Dr. Marjorie H. Scott, at 3 p.m. Sunday.
The guest pastor is the Rev. Douglas A. Jones of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church. The theme is "A Vision of Justice," Daniel 7:13-14.
Scott was re-obligated as an itinerant elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church at the 2007 North Texas Annual Conference under Bishop Gregory GM Ingram, a news release said.
"She is the proud Pastor of Historic Visitors Chapel AME Church, Hot Springs, Arkansas, and she is an author of a devotional book, 'Promises of Glory.' She has previously served as Senior Pastor at Forest Hill AME in Fort Worth, Texas, Associate Pastor at Hartford Memorial Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan, Second Baptist Church in Evanston, Illinois, and St. Luke United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas. Her previous career includes corporate sales in health education and industrial industries and graduate admissions in higher education," the release said.
"Faith and family are the most important to Dr. Marjorie. She is fully committed to the teaching and preaching of an un-compromised gospel to the social consciousness of a people encouraging them to act, grow, believe, and love. She is the proud mother of two daughters, Sidney Nicole, and Shelby Lynn," it said.
Scott received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications from Loyola University of Chicago, Illinois, a Master of Divinity Degree from Garrett Evangelical Theology Seminary in Evanston, Illinois, and a Doctor of Ministry Degree in Spiritual Direction and Formation from Houston Graduate School of Theology.
Born in St. Louis, Missouri, and raised in Springfield, Illinois, Scott is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
