The United Way of the Ouachitas will hold its annual campaign kickoff and a meet and greet for its new executive director on Wednesday, Oct. 16, as "UWO looks forward to 2025," a news release said.

The event will be from 8:30-10 a.m. at Destiny's Bakeshop, 1001 Central Ave. Light refreshments will be provided by Destiny's.

The campaign kickoff will set into motion the annual giving campaign for 2025, which includes pledges and contributions made by individuals, employees, businesses, and foundations, the release said.

Livvey Rurup, the new United Way of the Ouachitas executive director, will also be on hand to meet members of the community and "share her enthusiasm for the United Way, as well as her vision for the organization. Rurup, who started as the organization's executive director on Oct. 1, has extensive experience and expertise in nonprofit organizations, including other United Ways, and looks forward to serving her community," the release said.

In addition to Rurup, featured speakers will include Don Gooch, regional director of community banks at Arvest, and Janie Smith, executive director of Jackson House.

"During the annual employee giving campaign, CEOs and campaign coordinators encourage employees to give to United Way. They motivate people to give by educating them about the needs in the community and asking them to participate in company activities. Giving to United Way is an easy way to benefit United Way's Community Partner Agencies and Community Impact Actions, such as Day of Caring, We've Got Talent, and Stuff the Bus," the release said.
