A parolee was arrested Friday on a felony warrant for allegedly taking $1,700 from a woman to buy a car for her in August which she has never received.

John Nathan McDaniel, 38, who lists a Baber Street address, was taken into custody at his residence around 10:30 a.m. on the warrant for theft of property over $1,000, punishable by up to six years in prison, and a misdemeanor warrant for failure to appear. He was being held on a zero bond parole hold and was set to appear Monday in Garland County District Court.

According to court records, McDaniel was convicted on March 15, 2011, in Garland County of aggravated residential burglary and sentenced to 10 years in prison, but later paroled. He also had prior misdemeanor convictions for hot checks.

According to the probable cause affidavit, a local woman alleges that on Aug. 2, a man she knows, identified as McDaniel, took her to her bank to withdraw money for a vehicle she was buying. He allegedly told her he would take the money, buy the car and bring it to her.

The woman noted she had her four grandchildren with her and "did not have a way to travel to Jessieville to get the car."

The woman said she gave McDaniel $1,700 she had withdrawn from her bank for him to buy the car and bring it to her. She said she kept asking McDaniel "where he was" and "why he had not brought the car to her," and McDaniel kept making excuses about the car, claiming it "needed to be repaired" and he was "going to get it fixed" and bring it to her.

She alleges McDaniel has not brought the car to her or returned her money. A warrant for McDaniel's arrest was issued on Oct. 9 and he was arrested two days later.
