ROGERS -- Walter Andrew Daves Jr., age 95, originally of Hot Springs, Ark., died on Jan. 6, 2025, while residing in Rogers, Ark.

He was born in Hot Springs, Ark., on Feb. 25, 1929, to Walter A. Daves Sr. and Bertha Maddox Daves.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Steven C. Daves; three brothers, George Daves, Arvel Daves and Earl Daves; two sisters, Ruth Flemming and Isabel Hennigan; and one great-granddaughter, Hannah Martin.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Mary E. Daves, of Cave Springs, Ark., (formerly of Hot Springs); and a daughter, Sharon Martin and her husband, Mike Martin, of Cave Springs, Ark.; two sisters, Luda Thomas, of Colleyville, Texas, and Bertha Nichols, of North Richland Hills, Texas.

His grandchildren are Shelly Farrow, of Bentonville, Ark., Matt Martin (Christie), of Bentonville, Ark., and Timothy Martin, of Joplin, Mo. His great-grandchildren include William Farrow, of Rogers, Ark., Aiden Farrow, of Bentonville, Ark., Joshua Martin, of Benton, Ark., Scarlett Martin and Caleb Martin, of Bentonville, Ark. He has one great-great-granddaughter, Bailey Rose Farrow-Pettit.

Walter graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1948 and served in the U.S. Army, serving in Oklahoma, Kansas and Virginia. He retired from AP&L (Entergy) as an engineer. Walter spent much of his time in retirement volunteering for the Boy Scouts of America by repairing buildings, fences, outdoor seating, water leaks and mowing at the Ross Rhodes Scout Reservation on Lake DeGray, Ark. He was awarded the Silver Beaver Award, the highest honor from the Boy Scouts of America Council, for his exceptional volunteer service to the organization.

Services will be on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2025, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. and service at 2 p.m. at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home, 155 Section Line Road, Hot Springs, AR 71913. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Hot Springs, Ark.
