‘Hoop Shoot’ rescheduled for Jan. 19

Hot Springs Elks Lodge No. 380 has rescheduled its annual Elks National Hoop Shoot free throw competition for boys and girls ages 8-13 for Jan. 19 at Park Magnet, an IB World School, located at 617 Main Street.

Registration opens for the free contest at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. The competition will start at 1 p.m.

As always, the first-place winners in each age group of both boys and girls will compete at the state competition, to be held in Hot Springs Feb. 2, for a chance to go on to regionals in Paducah, Ky. -- all expenses paid by the Elks for winners and their families.

"'Hoop Shoot' is fun, and kids don't have to be great basketball players or have team experience -- just be good free throw shooters!" a news release said. "Elks have held the competition every year for over 50 years, and believe it helps boys and girls develop 'grit' and learn good sportsmanship and perseverance.
